Kasese Police Station Attack: Suspect Nabbed With Gun

“Six other suspects have been arrested and interrogated and are being held in police safe custody for as investigations progress,” police said in a statement.

On July 27 at approximately 6:00am a group of 15 suspected Rwenzururu tribal agitators attacked the post with one automatic rifle and an assortment of spears, machetes, knives and shields.

They killed an officer on duty and injured others before stealing two assault rifles.

Senior police officers commended the actions of area local leaders who identified the suspect and immediately reported the matter to police.

“This prompt community action directly led to Mutetu’s immediate arrest. The police also praised local resident a one John Bosco Kyaligonza, who was injured in the course of trying to prevent the attack on the Police post Kasese,” police added

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Lt Gen Kale Kayihura has visited the scene and the homes of the injured officers as well as that of Kyaligonza.

Meanwhile, police have transferred officers who were wounded in the fracas to Mulago Referral Hospital, Kampala for further medical attention.

The families of the injured officers are being taken care of by the office of the Inspector General of Police.

Meanwhile, investigators are following new leads from other sources connected to suspects in the Kasese attack.
