The choir delighted audiences with two hours of energetic contemporary gospel music which collided with traditional African rhythms in this unique show. In addition to the two evening concerts, they also performed at Priory Witham Academy and Castle Academy for local secondary school children.
Concerts were free but the academies and audience members at the evening concerts made donations towards Watoto Children’s Villages following the concerts.
The choir also raised funds by selling merchandise which was very popular! Donations totalling a jaw-dropping £1700 (Shs6m) were gratefully received by the choir and will be used to sustain and develop Watoto Children’s Villages, where children and vulnerable women receive care, support and education.
The globally acclaimed Watoto Children’s Choir has travelled internationally since 1994 as ambassadors for the millions of children in Africa, orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS, war and poverty.
Each of the children in the choir has suffered the loss of one or both parents. When they are not touring, they live in Watoto Children’s Villages with their adoptive families.
The Showroom, Croft Street Baptist Church and the Watoto Ugandan Children’s Choir would like to thank all that attended and donated for making the concerts such a joyful occasion.
