approved http://crosscourtathletics.org/wp-admin/includes/widgets.php geneva;”>Well known for having led topless women in a recent city protest that paralysed Kampala and attracted international media attention, Allimadi was on Monday arrested moments before he briefed press on intentions to deliver a petition to Mbabazi, urging his resignation as Premier.

She was briefly detained at Kampala Police Station and later released.

Allimadi was set also to announce a date for the election of the group’s leaders.

Allimadi today evening told Chimprports.com news that her group has heard the name Mbabazi crop up in many scandals, “so we ask that he steps down and allows investigations to go ahead, without his interference.”

“Unfortunately, we were arrested before we were able to deliver it to Mr Mbabazi and to parliament,” she said.

Efforts to reach Mbabazi for a comment were fruitless as he could not pick or return our calls.

Below is the verbatim petition.

RE: DEMAND FOR YOUR RESIGNATION FROM GOVERNMENT

Dear Hon. Prime Minister Mr. Amama Mbabazi:

You are an National Resistance Movement (NRM) historical member and the Secretary General of the ruling NRM. These posts are supposed to be entrusted to a person of integrity and who is loyal to the Party’s agenda.

In 1986, when the NRM came to power it promised a Fundamental Change backed up by the Ten Point Programme. This programme was to take Uganda and its citizens to the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey.

A violation or compromise of any single one of the programme’s 10 points would leave Ugandans wandering in the desert until we cleaned up and returned to those shining core principles.

During our recent General Elections, the NRM continuously raised people’s expectations with the “prosperity for all” promise, through its manifestos. Unfortunately, both the Ten Point Programme and the manifestos have not been implemented or turned out to be a hoax.

The majority of Ugandans are extremely poor. Unemployment is high, and inflation at one point reached 30% making it impossible for many citizens to afford basic needs such as food and fuel for transport. Ordinary Ugandans live in conditions unfit for pigs.

Many live in fear, without access to proper medical care or to education that would allow them to function in this globally competitive environment. On the other hand, a minority elite, including NRM leadership, enjoy luxurious lifestyles even sending their children and relatives for medical treatment overseas.

As a historical and top leader, you would not deny that the NRM is in violation of the most cardinal principal of the Ten Point Programme: the elimination of corruption and misuse of power.

We believe as Prime Minister and Secretary General of the ruling NRM, you should do the right thing and accept responsibility.

As Prime Minister your reputation must be impeccable at home and abroad. There have been several allegations of corruption against you in Parliament in connection to: CHOGM finances; TEMANGALO; and, Uganda’s oil industry.

Internationally, the United States ambassador referenced your alleged involvement in corruption connected to the oil industry, in official embassy cables to Washington, D.C. The United States is an important development partner of Uganda.

Many governmental officials owe their position to you personally making it impossible for any serious independent investigation into these allegations.

CLOSE TO MUSEVENI

It is widely believed that even the President is not in a position to relieve you of your posts because you are privy to important information he would rather you not disclose.

We are therefore appealing to your sense of duty, and to the love you have for Uganda

that once inspired you to become an NRM historical, to do the right thing.

It would be best for the country and for your own legacy that you resign so that these allegations can be investigated without fear or compromise by the authorities.

Ugandans have reached their limit and can no longer tolerate the pain inflicted by rampant corruption, unemployment, poverty, and despair.

Ugandans have been peacefully mobilizing and agitating for change and will continue to do so as is their right under our Constitution.

As Concerned Citizens, we demand an end to rampant corruption.

We demand that you resign for the sake of the country we all love. We are sure you are eager to clear your name and will accept this demand.

Since you are a Christian, we leave you with this biblical scripture from 1Timothy 6:9-10

“But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.”

God bless Uganda. For God and my Country.
