48 Year Old Arrested for Conning MPs

Police in Kampala have arrested a 48 year old man who has been conning politicians especially Members of Parliament who lost in the last elections.

Franklin Babaibas has allegedly been taking huge sums of money from unsuspecting politicians, story promising to link them up with President Yoweri Museveni for new jobs.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango says that the arrest of Babaibas followed continuous complaints from his victims.

According to Onyango, introduced himself to the victims as ISO Director Brig. Ronnie Barya and was using the mobile phone number 0772438370 which he registered using a forged Identity Card under the names of Ronnie Barya.  His tricks Onyago says were most effective shortly before the new cabinet was announced.

He allegedly charged the victims Shs. 1million to clean their names before the president for the various government offices.

“Some of the Mps gave him the money he asked while a few others decline. One them gave him the money and found himself on the cabinet list. Without realizing that he was dealing with a conman, he gave him more 5million as a token of appreciation,” revealed Onyago to the press.

The accused was found to have graduated from Dar es Salaam University with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry in 1995, worked with Uganda Revenue Authority for one year in 1997 and as a food chemist.

After his contract expired, he remained as an URA informant 2008 when the Commissioner General Allen Kagina scrapped off that office, rendering him jobless to date.

He will be charged with uttering a false document, impersonation as well as procuring and execution of documents by false pretense contrary to sec 353 of the penal code Act” Onyango said.

Babibas is still detained at CPS as investigations in the matter carry on.
