clinic geneva;”>Following heavy rains in various parts of the country, over 120 bridges some said to have been poorly constructed are in urgent need of re-construction and repair by the Ministry of Works including the Mitaano Bridge connecting Rukungiri – Mitaano – Kanungu road between Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo.
The President was on Tuesday meeting Kanungu district leaders led by the Kinkiizi East County Member of Parliament Chris Baryomunsi at State House in Nakasero.
The president and the various leaders discussed various issues affecting the region and how best they could be resolved.
Museveni told the delegation that he was aware of the divisionism in the district which was created by the politics that started when Hon. Chris Baryomunsi contested against Hon Amama Mbabazi’s relative Jackie Mbabazi during the NRM party primaries.
He, however, pledged to use his position as peacemaker to meet Members of Parliament from Kanungu district and talk them into making peace for the sake of the area’s development.
Museveni also requested the delegation to focus on infrastructural development of the area in the meantime and not waste time in non issues.
Sources say the Kanungu politicians have been bickering instead of harmonizing their differences for the development of the region.
There have been several hostile camps – one loyal to Baryomunsi and another to Mbabazi.
The fights between the two camps had as well sent shockwaves in the district and polarized political structures in implementing developmental projects.
Responding the issue of water shortage, the President requested the leaders to sensitize the masses against the consequences of environmental abuse.
He asked them to restrain themselves from cheap politics when dealing with those encroaching on the wetlands that in turn affects the availability of water in the area.
The President also pledged to support for the best student of the district at “A- level” throughout university education.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Local Government Adolf Mwesigye, the Minister for Works and Transport Ibrahim Byandaala, former RDC Kampala Stanley Kinyatta, the area L.C 5 chairperson and councilors.
