Bakari said Kabugho stole a one-day-old baby from Virika Hospital in Fort Portal town on Sunday from its mother Jacqueline Kyalisima, a resident of Kyarusozi in Kyenjojo district.
He added Kyalisima gave birth by caesarean section and did not have a care taker, a situation that was exploited by Kabugho.
As a weak Kyalisiima slept off, Kabugho disappeared with the baby.
Upon reaching Kasese, Kabugho was arrested by concerned residents who surprisingly saw her with a baby yet she had never been pregnant before.
The residents later reported the matter to police thus causing Kabugho’s arrest for further investigations.
“We felt concerned because we had for a long time never seen her with a baby. When we asked her she claimed to have given birth yet we had not seen her pregnant,” said Consolata Muhindo a 46-year old woman resident of Kasese district.
Bakari has now encouraged parents to exercise vigilance to avoid theft of their babies.
