In March, MTN announced changes to its organisational model with the view of enhancing organisational effectiveness.
Khumalo has been MTN Uganda’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since 2009.
He is now in charge of management of 13 MTN operations in Afghanistan, Benin, Botswana, Congo Brazzaville, Cyprus, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Liberia, Rwanda, Sudan, Swaziland, Yemen and Zambia.
This implies Khumalo will report to the newly appointed group chief operating executive Ahmad Farroukh.
“Khumalo’s appointment would bolster the group’s position as a leading telecommunications firm in Africa,” says Mbiire.
He also commends Khumalo’s steady management in Uganda over the last three years including the successful launch of MTN Mobile Money in Uganda.
MTN group president and CEO Sifiso Dabengwa says Khumalo’s successor in Uganda would be announced soon.
Boasting of over twenty years of experience in the telecommunications world, Khumalo holds a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Iowa (USA).
