“Information sharing is already bearing fruits as joint AMISOM and TFG operations have enabled the defeat of Al-Shabaab terrorists in the Daynile area with minimum casualties. The Joint Fusion and Liaison Unit will further strengthen our coordination as we liberate more areas from Al-Shabaab terrorists,” says Ngoga.
The establishment of the Joint intelligence sharing unit between AMISOM and the TFG follows the recommendation made during the Information Sharing Meeting held in Kampala in November 2010.
The development comes at a time when UPDF-led troops are making significant inroads in the once Al Shabaab strongholds.
A similar intelligence sharing strategy was used in 2011 between Uganda and Congolese authorities to coordinate military operations against ADF rebels in Mwalika region.
Military experts say AMISOM could liberate the entire Somalia from Al Shabaab insurgents before the end of 2012.
