Uganda Military Parades 53 Rebel Suspects, Sent To Luzira

sale geneva; font-size: small;”>The rebel suspects, who were picked in a security swoop in the recent months, were charged with treason and concealment of treason before being remanded at Luzira prison.

Some of the suspects include Charles Okong, Paul Opobo, Madi Okwora among others. broke the news of the nationwide arrests by security personnel. This followed intelligence that some members of opposition especially in the Diaspora were planning a rebellion in Uganda.

The military alleges the individuals were planning rebel activities under Uganda People’s Federal Alliance (UPFA) and Uganda National Front/ Army (UNF/A).

They participated and aided plans to remove government using force of arms.

Security sources say the arrest of the insurgents was facilitated by the capture of rebel Nix Bongomin in Pader a few months ago.

He was found in possession of names of combatants who were to start a rebellion against government of President Yoweri Museveni.

Security swiftly swung into action thus apprehending the rebels from different corners of the country. Caches of weapons were recovered as well, according to army spokesperson Col. Felix Kulayigye.

Majority of the suspects were picked from Northern and Eastern regions of Uganda.

In Court, they looked haggard but unshaken.
