He denies the allegations, saying they were masterminded by his rivals at the campus.

Makerere University Senate, the supreme academic organ of the institution, Thursday evening held a special meeting in which it elected its representatives to the search committee of the Vice Chancellor.

The senate also chose top dons on the search committee for the deputy vice chancellors.

According to the University’s publicist Ritah Namisango, during the special meeting, members of the University Senate who were interested in the positions of Vice Chancellor and deputy vice chancellor (academic and Finance and administration)were advised not to participate in the meeting.

At this time, Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba, who has since expressed his intention for the advertised Vice Chancellor job, left the meeting.

Prof. Sam Kyamanywa, the Principal of the college of Agricultural and Environmental Science, chaired the session leading to the election of senate representatives to the search committees.

The senate elected Dr Okello Ogwang, Dr Pamela Mbabazi and Dr Stephen Nyanzi for the search committee of Vice Chancellor.

The senate representatives will now join Stephen Maloba and Bruce Balaba Kabasa who were on March 7 elected by the University Council chaired by Dr Charles Wana Etyem to form part of the search committee.

The search will commence after the University Council has approved the guidelines.

The council will meet on April 13 and 14 to approve the guidelines for the search committee.

As a matter of procedure, after the council has approved guidelines, the search committee is given two months from the date of approval of guidelines and the procedures by the council to elect the Vice Chancellor.

During the meeting, the Senate also selected Dr Josephine Nabukenya, Dr John Mango and Dr Euzobia Baine Mugisha and Dr Julius Kiiza for the search committee for deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs.

The senate also selected Dr A Rukooko, Dr Umar Kakumba, Prof. T Mugisha, Dr Jessica Aguti and Dr Consolanta Kabonesa as members on the search committee for deputy vice Chancellor Finance and Administration.

As the process goes on, Baryamureeba remains acting vice chancellor with Lilian Tibatemwa and Prof. Sandys Stevens Tickodri-Togboa as his deputies.

The coveted Vice Chancellor job has attracted big shots at the campus who include Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba and Prof. Eli Katunguka.
