Museveni further advised the Mubende leadership to follow and really appreciate Professor Zake’s counsel on soil fertility.

“If you apply Professor Zake’s advice of soil use, you will get more money. Even coffee and other crops, if they get enough nutrients, the yield will be impressive and you will earn more money”, he advised.

President Museveni informed farmers in the country of the government’s plan to harmonize the National Agricultural and Advisory Services (NAADS) and extension workers’ services. He noted that extension workers had become what he termed “botanists” instead of advising farmers on the economics of agriculture.

Museveni strongly advised Mubende leaders to promote the growing of fruits in their zone and cited Mr. Nyombi, who is a progressive and prominent fruit farmer in Mityana district, as a good example to the people of Mubende Zone in their struggle to eradicate household poverty.

The President called on the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries to arrange for the provision of planting materials to farmers, avail them improved breeding livestock and also offer them soil fertility advice. He also called on the political class to guide farmers on enterprise selection as they mobilize wanainchi for development.
