He explained that breeding centers for various agricultural inputs should strategically be opened up in all regions of the country to enable farmers obtain them at the location of their farming activities.

Museveni cited some of the inputs as being livestock, animal and fowl feeds centres, fruit and coffee seedlings multiplication centres, tea seedlings centres, poultry hatcheries, fish fry breeding centres in areas that promote fish farming and seeds centres.

The President called on the National Agricultural and Advisory Services (NAADS) to provide farmers in Katakwi district and other milk producing areas in the Teso Sub-Region with milk coolers and reassured the people of Teso that the construction of the fruit factory in Soroti Municipality will soon commence.

He recommended that areas which experience massive land fragmentation like the case is in Ngora, Serere and Kumi districts, should engage in silk production that would, coupled with skill in education, help in decongesting land in those areas.

“Another activity that will help decongest the land is education. After education with skills, the youth move from villages to urban areas and leave the land for production.Yes, they may retain ownership of the land but will not be there physically,” he explained.

Museveni also commended the leadership of Teso Sub-Region for realizing the need to immediately transform their societies to move from traditional to modern living standards through commercial agriculture.

“I congratulate you on this renaissance of waking up our people. Akwenyun (Meaning waking up) Movement has started. Eyalama noi,” he told the cheering delegates.

Moving a vote of thanks, the Chairman of Teso Parliamentary Group, Hon. Jacob Richards Opolot, thanked the President for what he described as a very useful interaction with them on planning for the wellbeing of the people of Teso Sub-Region.

He pledged, on behalf of the Teso delegation, to work with government as a team to implement all that was agreed upon in the meeting for the development not only of Teso but also of Uganda in general.
