Friends and neighbours rushed to save Nampijja, who was whimpering in untold pain and rolling in a pool of blood at her residence in Kitebi, a Kampala suburb.
“We heard Nampijja screaming loud, callling for help. By the time we accessed her residence, she was already in coma. Her niece identified as Shakira Namutebi and maid Harriet Kisakye were chopped during the fight,” said John Ochieng, a neighbor.
The terrifying raid happened at around 11:00pm just as Nampijja was preparing her kids to sleep.
Detectives say Mukisa telephoned Nampijja’s sister Lilian Nakyanzi, saying he had “finished off” the former legislator.
Nampijja’s head sustained grave wounds.
She was today January 29 transferred to Kampala Hospital. Relatives say she could be airlifted to Kenya for sophisticated medical services.
Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi has confirmed the incident, saying investigations into the heart-pounding attack are underway.
“Perpetrators of this heinous crime will be brought to book,” said Ssenkumbi.
Nampijja and Mukisa have for long been embroiled in a property wrangle.
Registered in the names of their four-year-old daughter, the disputed properties are located in Salaama, Kyamula and Kitebi.
Nampijja and Mukisa met at Makerere University in 2004 before she was elected to Parliament.
However, their relationship hit the rocks when Nampijja lost her bid for the Makindye East seat.
As a result, Nampijja and Mukisa separately filed cases at Katwe police station accusing each other of infidelity.
The case was referred to the Family Protection Unit of Uganda Police Force which tried in vain in helping the couple resolve their differences.
The case sucked in IGP Lt. Gen. Kale Kayihura who referred the file to Kampala Metropolitan police Commander Andrew Kaweesi.
