Why Court Adjourned CHOGM Ministers Trial

click geneva;”>The defendants claim IGG is not duly constituted thus lacking mandate to prosecute them in courts of law. The Inspectorate must have a full IGG and two deputies to institute criminal proceedings against any one, the ministers allege in their defence.

The ministers are Sam Kutesa (Foreign Affairs), Mwesigwa Rukutana (Labour) and government Chief Whip John Nasasira.

Lawyers representing the ministers told court today that the Constitutional Court’s case cause-list for 2012 showed it would resume business in July.

The ministers, who stepped aside to allow investigations into the scandal, deny the charges.

IGG Sydney Asubo gave a nod to the adjournment.

The ministers arrived at court in company of their wives. Their relatives and friends turned up in a show of solidarity.
