It’s common knowledge that police cadets under Kayihura undergo militarised training at Kabalye.
Police officers we talked to say they were not shocked by the shooting as Komakech is considered one of the most deadly cops this nation has ever heard.
“Komakech is a cold-hearted killer. He has a stone for the heart. He derives pleasure from killing. It’s his hobby,” recounts a cop who has known Komakech for five years.
The source who preferred anonymity says Komakech has two kids. He resides in Nsambya, a Kampala suburb.
Komakech was one of the few commanders of the infamous Kiboko squad that brutalized activists protesting the sale of Mabira forest in 2007.
The monstrous Komakech, who is now in jail for murder of two civilians, who were yesterday protesting the demolition of their business structures in Port Bell, Luzira, carries three guns.
“Guns are his toys. His thirst for blood is unquenchable. No sane police commander can send him to control a crowd. He is just a killer,” the source further noted.
Komakech served under a secret team of operatives in the disbanded Rapid Response Unit.
He commanded teams that hunted down robbers in Kampala. He reportedly brutalized them.
Komakech also participated in a highly secretive commando operation searching for armed thugs that burnt down Nateete police station and looted all the guns during the 2009 Kayunga demonstrations.
We are told lives were lost at the hands of Komakech.
Our source further revealed that the brutal cop played a huge role in ‘disciplining’ rioters during the Kayunga riots in which Buganda youth were protesting government’s decision to block Kabaka Ronald Mutebi from visiting Bugerere.
He was later transferred to the Armory section at Nsambya Police Barracks in Kampala. He never wears police uniform.
It was not until late last year that CID bosses recommended Komakech to IGP Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura as an escort for KCCA director Jennifer Musisi.
Musisi had earlier complained to President Yoweri Museveni she was receiving endless death threats.
At the time, Musisi was battling former Kampala mayor Nasser Ntege Ssebagala who was determined to stay in the official mayor’s house in Nakasero. It was around the same time that Musisi was involved in a bitter dispute with coordinator of intelligence organs Gen. David Tinyefuza over a house in Kololo.
The development has hugely tarnished the image of KCCA. Hundreds of Ugandans on social networking sites especially Facebook and Twitter have condemned the incident in the strongest terms.
MP Mohammed Nsereko has called for justice to prevail. He says Komakech should be charged with murder.
Mayor Erias Lukwago has described the shooting as barbaric. He says the perpetrators, who include Physical Planning Director George Agaba, must be punished.
“The heinous crimes committed in Luzira-Portbell by a gang of trigger-happy hoodlums led by our Director Planning, George Agaba must be condemned in the strongest terms possible.,” Lukwago charged.
“Whoever abetted or acquiesced in this savagery conduct should be indicted in courts of law. My office has called for an emergency meeting of KCCA for Wednesday at 10 am to deliberate on this matter of great national importance and take stern measures.”
How Musisi’s escort ended up in a demolition exercise in Luzira is puzzling.
With the video clip of the shooting going viral on internet, Ugandans are looking forward to the prosecution of Komakech.
