The Workshop is the brainchild of Makerere University Institute of Social Research (MISR).
The workshop is organized under the theme, “The Architecture of Post-Cold War Africa: Between Internal Reform and External Intervention.”
President Mbeki is expected to deliver a key-note address in the morning and later in the evening at 6.00 pm, he will hold a public question and answer session under the theme “Africa and the World: Intervention and Reform.”
The former South African President, who arrived aboard a South African Airways flight, was received at Entebbe international Airport by South African envoy to Uganda Mr. D.J. Quelane and Uganda Foreign Affairs Ministry officials.
Mbeki will present a public question and answer session at the University’s Main Hall tomorrow Thursday starting 6pm till 8pm.
Aimed at reviving the “Makerere Africa Lecture Series” that were banned during dictator Idi Amin’s regime in the early 1970s, Mbeki’s lecture will be held under the theme “Africa and the World: Intervention and Reform.”
Makerere insiders say Prof. Mahmood Mamdani, the director of the Makerere Institute of Social Research, personally invited Mbeki.
Mamdani will chair the session while Vice Chancellor Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba will host the event, according to the institution’s publicist Ritah Namisango.
The public lecture will be attended by top academia, journalists and eminent members of society.
In a related development, the 62nd graduation is going on smoothly at the campus.
221 first class degrees and 41 PhDs have be awarded among 11,000 graduates.
