The blood-spattered incident occurred in the wee hours of Monday.

Six passengers, including the driver, have been confirmed dead while several others broke their limbs.

The death toll is likely to escalate considering that scores have been rushed to Bombo Hospital in critical condition.

Huge torrents of blood flowed on tarmac as good Samaritans used axes to pluck out the casualties’ shattered body parts from the wreckage.

Police have sealed off the scene of the accident and investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.

Eyewitnesses say the driver was over-speeding.

In January last year, a Kampala-bound Gaagaa bus knocked a cow and rammed into a truck heading to Gulu Town near Kafu Bridge on Gulu Highway.

The accident left 10 dead and 34 people seriously injured.

Police later confirmed the over-speeding was the cause of the accident.

Police have in the past said the major causes of bus accidents are over speeding, reckless driving, fatigue, overloading and poor vehicle mechanical condition.

Experts say police needs to put in place conditions specifying the number of kilometers a bus driver should cover.

At least 2,000 die in road accidents per year in Uganda.
