“The explosion happened at about 18:40PM in Marembo Village, Nyabisindu Cell, Remera Sector in front of a pub where people were selling fruits and vegetables,” Badege notes.

“Two people have so far died while 16 others are under medical care at Kibagabaga and the University Teaching hospital of Kigali (CHUK).

By Wednesday morning, some of those admitted had already been discharged. The deceased were also taken to Kacyiru Police hospital mortuary,” Badege notes.

The statement comes at a time of a raging dispute on the number of deaths. While police claim only two died, reliable journalists and eagle-eyed eyewitnesses confirmed five bodies were carried away by police after the bloody incident.

For example Rwanda-based media house last night confirmed five had perished in the attacks.

Nevertheless, Badege says as investigations continue to identify the authors or the cause of the explosion, Rwanda National Police urges the public to continue with their cooperation and share timely information, and report anything suspicious to the nearby police station or concerned authorities.
