While some top government officials want Karooro to step down, others feel such a move would leave Muhanga, a close friend to the first family, unprotected.

Former UBC boss Edward Mugasa Musigunzi was yesterday charged for selling the corporation’s land worth Shs11.5bn to controversial city tycoon Hassan Bassajjabalaba without following proper disposal procedures.

Musinguzi appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala where he denied charges of abuse of office preferred against him.

Musinguzi joined UBC board chairman Chris Katuramu and acting Corporation Secretary Emmanuel Emoru who were charged before the same court last Tuesday.

While these officials have been charged, police have been cagey on Karooro’s file with media reports indicating the Director of Public Prosecution is yet to receive it.

Sources fear some police officers are trying to shield Karooro but at the same time crucifying UBC managers.
