Museveni made the call yesterday during the wedding ceremony of Allan Kajike and Evelyn Anite which was held at St. Steven’s Cathedral- Goli in Nebbi Diocese.
The Groom is the son of Mr. Eriam and Mrs. Esther Uzele of Nebbi district while the bride and MP for Northern Region, is the daughter of Mr. Steven and Mrs. Sarah Dravu of Koboko district in the West Nile Sub-Region. The marriage ceremony was presided over by the Archbishop of Uganda, the Most Rev. Luke Orombi
The President, who donated 3 Freisian cows to Evelyn, congratulated the new couple for finding each other and deciding to have holy matrimony. He also commended them for following the good advice from the elders and get married. He congratulated the parents of the new couple for raising their children decently.
Museveni called on parents throughout the country to educate and train their children in good morals when they are still young.
He challenged the Church and the Ministry of Gender and Social Affairs, to do research towards the promotion of the welfare of children.
Museveni noted that the middle class societies, who frequent bars, do not have time to mould their children and worse still grandparents, are no longer able to be fully available to train those children.
Turning to the Government Programme of Prosperity for All (PFA), the President urged all people of Uganda to work hard in order to eradicate household poverty.
The President stressed that there is need to cultivate in a planned manner and maximize returns from their land holdings. He called on the people of Zombo district in particular to put in more effort in the production of Arabica coffee.
He criticized strongly politicians who always ride on cheap popularity adding that having good roads on its own, without production is not sufficient.
President Museveni assured the people of the Zombo district that the 3.5 Megawatt Nyagak hydro-power station, will be ready for commissioning in mid January next year.
He also pledged to ensure that improved water supply in the area by utilizing motorized bore holes would be realized. He pledged an ambulance to serve the community and gave a cash donation of Shs.10 million towards the proposed construction of a new cathedral.
Archbishop Luke Orombi saluted the President for blessing the ceremony with his presence. He said that a wife is God’s gift to man. He challenged parents in our society to lay firm foundations for their children through upright upbringing.
