Sata is here to attend the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) Heads of State Summit.

More than 11 Heads of State and Government are expected to attend the Summit.

Sata traveled with his wife, defence Minsiter Geoffrey Mwamba, Foreign affairs minister Chishimba Kambwili and a group of other officials.

The Summit will dedicate a Special Session to deliberate and strategies on addressing the pervasive challenge of Sexual gender based violence in the Great Lakes Region both in conflict and peace times in all its various manifestations.

The theme of the Summit is: “United to Prevent, End Impunity and provide Assistance to Victims of Sexual Gender Based Violence.”

Member states of the ICGLR are: Angola, Burundi, CAR, DRC, Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia.

It’s hugely expected the Republic of South Sudan will be admitted to the ICGLR family during the summit.

This is the first time Sata is travelling out of Zambia since he became President.
