“He will arrive shortly before the Youth gala,” Mugambage further stressed.

Kagame is expected to receive the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ during the Young Achievers Awards (YAA) ceremony at Common Wealth Resort, Munyonyo, Kampala.

The organiser of the event Awel Uwihanganye was quoted by the media saying Kagame will be recognised for his efforts in empowering young people and his inspiring leadership values on the African continent.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to attend the function.

According to Uwihanganye, the award is given to an outstanding senior citizen who has greatly inspired the young generation to desire for change and a better life.

This will be the third edition of the annual YAA.

Separately, Ministry Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Amb. James Mugume said Uganda had finalised all arrangements necessary for Kagame’s visit.

“It’s going to be a one day event. I think he will arrive on Sunday evening,” Mugume said today in an early morning telephone interview.

Mugambage described the Lifetime Achievement Award as a deserved endorsement.

“The President has been inspiring the youth throughout his life and he inspired many of his contemporaries,” Mugambage said.

He said Kagame’s works are a good example of how the youth can achieve greatness through inspiration.

During the function five other categories will be recognised. They include Fashion and Culture, Sports, Media and Society, Leadership and Governance, Art, Business and Trade, Music and Entertainment.

Outstanding personalities who have hugely contributed to national development through sacrifice will get awards.

According to Uwihanganye, the Young Achievers’ Awards is an initiative aimed at creating a platform for harnessing talent, show casing excellence and innovation among Ugandan citizens aged up to 35 years.

The official host is Her Royal Highness the Nnabagereka of Buganda, Sylvia Nagginda.

This will be the third edition of the awards that were introduced to “Reward Innovation and Excellence” among the youth.

For the first time, there will be an award to recognise a young achiever from each of the five East African countries. The move is to help empower young people through an East African framework. This year’s theme is “Crossing Boarders.”
