A serious fighting is now on going in the taxi park. The entire area has now been turned into smouldering rubble. Taxis have been stopped form entering the park, now the battle ground.

Heavily armed anti-riot police is using peppered teargas canisters and live bullets to disperse the raging taxi drivers.

They accuse UTODA of insisting on collecting un-receipted dues.

Under their umbrella organisation DACCA, the drivers today staged an uprising in compliance with an earlier resolution reached on Sunday.

They had agreed to wage a full scale war against UTODA until their concerns were looked into.

Security is tight in the area. Several shops have been closed to avoid destruction of property. Despite a drizzle showering the city, drivers are using all weapons in their reach, ranging from stones, metallic objects, axes and clubs to attack UTODA.

Several people have been injured in the city riot. Taxi drivers are pelting stones at police and UTODA officials. Police is heavily deploying in the area while dozens have been arrested.

The violence underline the death of fear among drivers after years of exploitation by UTODA.
