The directive followed massive outcry of duplication of land titles and illegal transfers by corrupt insiders.

A source said top city tycoons were robbing land from ignorant land owners by colluding with smart officials in the Ministry. In some other cases, the officials have been involved in outright theft of land titles.

“We have been asking, how do land titles go missing? How? Do they have legs?” asked an informer.

Some titles were at times not registered in the computerised data systems of the ministry, paving way for extortion of the public.

According to the Ministry’s publicist Dennis Obbo, the offices will be closed to the public between November 7 to 11.

“This is to allow for verification and rectification of Land titles and Land records that have not yet been captured by the computerized System. The verification exercise shall be carried out by Registry staff and the public will not be involved,” Obbo said.

“All the affected Registries shall not receive any documents from the public during this period. The affected registries under the Office of Titles shall resume their usual operation on November 14,” said Obbo.
