approved geneva; font-size: small;”>A former Chief of Staff in the NRA which later metarmophosed into UPDF, dosage Nanyumba passed away at Mulago Referral hospital-Kampala yesterday morning.

Nanyumba was Uganda’s envoy to Rwanda. However, he was relegated to ‘katebe’ shortly after a bloody confrontation between UPDF and Rwanda Patriotic Army in Kisangani, Congo in 1999.

Since then he has never been re-assigned. At his old age, Nanyumba has been spending the better part of his time on Dewinton Road in Kampala chatting with fellow undeployed officers.

A highly trained telecommunication engineer in Europe, Nanyumba skillffully crossed to the NRA after Museveni had captured power in 1986. He had been Museveni’s contact in UNLF during 1979 to 1980 under the Save Uganda Movement.

On February 1, 2005, President Yoweri Museveni promoted him to rank of Maj. General before retiring him. At a colourful held at General Army headquarters Bombo, Nanyumba was retired and sent of with a package.

The first to be announced among those promoted before they received their discharge certificates from the Army Commander, Lt. Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, was then Brig. Jim Muhwezi. who was promoted to Maj. General.

Nanyumba died a miserable death. He was said to be perennially broke and efforts to give him an assignment for welfare purposes had fallen on deaf ears.
