Thomas Kasiimo, the Regional Police Commander Rwenzori, confirmed the arrests.

It is alleged that during the July 5 attack on Bundibugyo police station and Kanyamirima army barracks, the police officers were reportedly not on duty.

Their absence on duty for long raised suspicion to the security organs carrying out investigations in connection with the recent attack on defence installations.

“The accused officers failed to follow the intelligence report and detect that the district was going to be attacked by the enemies,” said Kasiimo.

Their arrest also followed reports that they were bribed by the assailants to allow them attack and disarm the police officers on duty. Chimpreports could not verify this claim.

According to Kasiimo, the accused will be interrogated by a team of officers from the Police Professional Standards Unit (PPSU).

The July 4 attacks on the districts of Ntoroko, Kasese and Bundibugyo left 92 people dead.

Over 150 attackers were arrested and remanded to prison.

The security blamed the attack on the districts to tribal clashes between the Bamba in Bundibugyo and Bakonzo in Kasese.
