He promised to have his verdict ready by July 4.

8:00pm: The High Court in Kampala will Friday decide the fate of Adam Kalungi, the jailed former boyfriend of departed Butaleja Woman MP, Cerinah Nebanda.

Kalungi, who is serving a 4-year sentence at Luzira prison, was convicted by Makindye Magistrates Court in February for causing Nebanda’s death.

Court held then that Nebanda died out of Kalungi’s actions in that he had cocaine and heroine in his house which the former took, leading to her demise.

Dissatisfied with both his conviction and sentence, Kalungi appealed to the High Court saying that the lower court did not properly evaluate the evidence hence arriving at a wrong conclusion.

Kalungi says he cannot be convicted of manslaughter since he was not in any way mandated to save her life as he is a not medical doctor.

He adds that he did whatever he could to save her life having secured two doctors to treat the lawmaker.

However, DPP insists Kalungi should serve this sentence having been found guilty of delaying to take Nebanda to hospital, which resulted into her death.

Prosecution adds that since Kalungi has up to date not offered an explanation to the nation as to why he had to flee the country to Kenya after the MP’s death, the only reason was having a guilty conscious.

Justice Lameck Mukasa who is presiding over Kalungi’s appeal reserved the ruling for Friday.
