While addressing the press at a weekly press briefing in Kampala on Thursday, Bwanika said many American lobbyists have moved to deceive the entire world that homosexuals in Uganda are being tortured and killed.

“I call upon the America Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy to visit Uganda and find out whether the allegations of torture against homosexuals are true,” said Bwanika.

“The Uganda law that was recently passed doesn’t offer any death sentence to any homosexuals as it has been alleged by many homosexuals in Uganda in bid to lobby for funds.”

US Department recently sanctioned travel of some government individuals including church leaders and slashed aid to Uganda for supporting the anti-gay law.

Supporters of the legislation say it intends to protect the nation’s moral fabric and traditional family setup.

Bwanika said the law criminalizes whoever intends to forcefully engage another person into the act and perhaps involving minors which is a crime worldwide.

“It should be noted, however, that many homosexuals in Uganda are living a free life in a free environment without any threats of torture or death. We have time and again engaged homosexuals and have helped to rehabilitate them and as well offer treatment to those that have suffered several illnesses.”

Bwanika has therefore appealed to parliament of Uganda and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to come up with a team aimed at rebranding the country’s image that has been distorted through peddling of lies by lobbyists.
