Mr. Museveni noted that families that have not heeded the advice recommended in the 1996 National Resistance Movement (NRM) Manifesto of adopting intensive commercial agriculture on a 4-acre piece of land are endangering their families in this era of money economy.

He called on the people of Luuka district to emulate the example set by Mr. Kasone, a progressive farmer in the area, so that they are able to graduate out of household poverty.

President Museveni told the gathering that the National Agricultural and Advisory Services (NAADS) programme, is to be restructured so that the money that is saved is injected into the purchase of seedlings and breeding materials that will be distributed to farmers.

The President informed the wananchi in Luuka that after experimenting modern commercial farming in his home area of Kiruhura district, he discovered that it was possible to eradicate poverty in rural areas of Uganda.

The President’s address was interrupted by heavy rain. He pledged Shs 50m each to Luuka Women Group SACCO and to the youth group respectively
