“You will become an ambassador for Rotary and you will carry these ideals and the principles of Rotary service to those who know you or with those with whom you are associated”, Mwanje said.
He urged the Deputy Speaker to recognise the obligations that come with being a rotarian and welcome them as opportunities for service.
The Deputy Speaker in his remarks said that he was delighted to have been admitted into the Rotary movement and promised to uphold its motto of ‘Service above self’.
“I am happy to be part of this club because I believe in your people and the principles you stand for which should be guarded jealously”, he said.
He also called on other institutions to emulate the harmony exhibited in Rotary clubs where present and past leaders live together.
“Rotary is the only institution where almost all people are past presidents. It is also the only institution where governors are above presidents. I wish this could be replicated in other institutions”, he wondered.
The Deputy Speaker donated US$1000 to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary.
