According to State House, the President and the visiting Russian Minister discussed issues pertaining to bilateral interest between Uganda and Russian Federation.

Mr. Gatilov has been in Russian Government service since 1972 and is in charge of Russian participation in UN and other international organizations, international economic, ecological and humanitarian co-operation, co-operation concerning climate change, culture and sports.

Before visiting Uganda, he held talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta in Kenya.

Russia appears determined to extend her footprint in Africa amid international isolation over the Ukraine crisis.

Mr. Gatilov was accompanied by the Russian Ambassador to Uganda, Mr. Sergei Shishkin and the Head of Africa Department, Mr. Vladimir Safronkov.
