The letter, according to Marial, demands an apology and explanation from IGAD executive secretary Mahboub Maalim for his statements captured by the media.

“His Excellency the president’s envoy is in Ethiopia with a letter to his counterpart H.E Hailemariam who is the current chair regarding the unfortunate statements by the IGAD executive secretary,” said Marial.

On Monday morning, another round of peace talks being mediated by IGAD flopped when both the representatives of the government of South Sudan and rebels (SPLM/A In Opposition) boycotted the opening ceremony in the Horn of African nation where the talks has been ongoing at a slow space.

The government delegation spokesman Michael Makuei who is also the South Sudan information minister directly lashed out at IGAD boss after the boycott saying it was an insult to use the word “stupid” on president Kiir.

Last week, Mahboub reportedly said if the warring parties in the conflict think the battlefield is the only answer to their political disagreements, they are stupid.

The war has now claimed thousands of lives and displaced closed to 2 million people both internally and to neighbouring countries.

Minister Marial, however, did not disclose the contents of Kiir’s missive until the envoy return to Juba.

A Ugandan Member of Parliament this week said it was ok to term Kiir and Machar stupid if they don’t want to dialogue but instead fight to solve their problems.
