Bukenya openly supported opposition DP candidate Brendah Nabukenya in the recent Luweero woman MP by-election, defeating the NRM candidate Nalwanga.

Led by Norbert Bisamaza, the youth claim Bukenya’s contribution to the party during his nine-year term as Vice President is negligible and that he must stop actions that divide NRM.

“There is nothing to show that Bukenya contributed considerably towards the development of his party and country. And we were so disturbed seeing him campaigning for Nabukenya who repossessed the parliamentary seat,” said Bisamaza.

“We now want Museveni to act on this matter in 7 days or else we will hold protests to pressure Bukenya to resign as a party official. We think that Prof Bukenya and others behind him are the major traitors in the NRM party. Therefore an immediate action against such people is needed now.”

This comes after Museveni held meetings with several NRM youth leaders drawn from across the country to boost unity in the party right from the grassroot levels.

Bukenya, who doubles as Busiro North MP and NRM chairman for Wakiso District, maintains he can only be toppled by the Delegates Conference which elected him.
