A number of Mityana residents we spoke to during this year’s Heroes Day Celebrations in Kikandwa sub-county vowed to rally behind the former police boss if she offers herself, pointing out that she is better placed to deliver.

“Don’t forget me”

Nabakooba utilized yesterday’s function to reach out to her supporters as a clue that she is coming in 2016.

All through the proceedings she was up and about, wading through the crowds and together with her team of mobilizers, they asked for support when election time comes.

“I am your child and you know me; I love you,” she chorused as she waved and smiled to hundreds of people who had come for the grand occasion.

Mobilizing her yellow team

She was also seen speaking and giving instructions to her mobilizing team, which was clad in bright yellow, while for the rest of the proceedings she sat in a public tent, chatting and smiling to as many people as she could.

Nabakooba was in April appointed Deputy Political Commissar by Police Boss Gen Kale Kayihura and replaced by Fred Enanga, having served as the institution’s publicists for a decade [since 2004].

She had earlier told media that her intentions to stand for the Mityana seat came from pressure from local opinion and religious leaders who found her suitable to replace Namabidde.

“It was not my initiative; elders, religious leaders as well as opinion leaders in Mityana urged me to replace my sister Namabidde. So when you see me in political trenches in 2016, just know that am bowing to their pressure,” she was reported as saying.

Nabakooba is known for her great capabilities to mingle and easily interact with the public, which partly explains why she was among the longest serving police publicists.
