this site geneva;”>It is thought her head was cut off by unknown criminals who attacked her family late in the night as they slept.
One of the children, Ssentamu, 6, narrates that he saw their grandmother bleeding severely and decided to cry out for help, attracting distant neighbors but on reaching, the old woman had already passed away.
“How can an old person of 100 years be left alone, being attended to by minors of two and six? This on the other side is negligence. We are going to hunt down whoever did this act, but also the relatives to the deceased have a case to answer,” said Phillip Mukasa, the Equator region police spokesperson.
He cautioned relatives of the elderly to always keep a close eye on them because they may have become a potential target in what can be termed as organized crime in the region.
Kanyanya becomes the sixth old woman to be killed in just a period of four weeks in Mpigi district. Just two weeks back, two old women were killed in Mpambire village.
However, some elders in the area attribute this to the increased levels of youth unemployment.
Authorities claim the unemployed youths have resorted to drugs which influence them to commit such crimes.
Other elders criticize traditional healers, saying they could have demanded some human body parts from their clients for the purposes of ritual practices.
