ambulance geneva;”>She Pearls earned Uganda her first and only gold medal in this year’s sports games after defeating Kenya in the final competition in Botswana with a difference of 20 points.

This came as a major relief for Uganda as the under-age netball team, making their maiden appearance at the games ended the country’s medal drought this year.

The team was voted the best during the monthly assembly held at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on Monday.

It was a stiff competition for the She Pearls as they battled several other teams and outstanding personalities to emerge the best in the month of May.

She Pearls competed against Umar Ssematta who won a kickboxing title after defeating an Egyptian opponent, KCCA football team – the country’s club champion and male athlete Jacob Eraptany who won a 3000 steeple chase in Japan.

The She Cranes won with 540 points, beating Eraptany who collected 450 points while KCCA team settled third at 395.

The sports scribes also commended rally driver Ronald Ssebuguzi who won the MPU Mbarara rally.

The she cranes will officially receive their monthly accolade this Thursday at Imperial Royale Hotel.
