Museveni Pledges to Renovate Uganda Martyrs' Shrine

During the service, Museveni thanked the widow of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere for her tireless efforts of commemorating her husband’s life and for encouraging Swahili lessons in Uganda.


Museveni who kept on referring to bible teachings asked the Tanzanians to forgive and forget all that happened during the Idi Amin regime.


He blamed Amin for attacking Tanzania, a move that triggered a bloody war in which 800,000 people died.


He applauded all pilgrims from Kenya and Tanzania for walking long distances to Namugongo. He donated food and drinks to all the pilgrims who came from distant places.


The service was led by Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga as the Main celebrant.


Last month, the Catholic Church revealed new plans to construct more structures at the Namugongo shrine such as guest houses, restaurants and toilets.
