Authorities in western Uganda have revealed that up to 200 Congolese nationals illegally crossed into the country on Monday this week.
The UPDF’s 2nd Division Makenke Barracks spokesperson Maj. Peter Mugisa told Chimpreports this morning that the Congolese entered Uganda without papers and spent the night at Mponde Church in Kasese district.
These were however returned back to the country the following day.
“As our routine, UPDF is continuously monitoring our border areas to prevent negative elements infiltrating our country” he said
The army spokesperson added that there were some shoot outs in the Easter DRC which compelled the civilians to run to Uganda.
He reassured however that that the situation is calm and security tight along the border, encouraging people in Kasese to resume their normal activities.
