Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, expressed delight at the role played by Rotarians in uplifting the lives of the most vulnerable.

Kadaga reaffirmed the need for leaders at all levels to reach out and engage with the communities to be able to understand their challenges.

“As Parliament, we have a role to make the right laws and pass budgets but we should always be in touch with the people we legislate and plan for. The Parliament outreach programme is one of the avenues through which we extensively engage with the grassroots,” she said.

The Speaker announced to Rotarians plans by Parliament to provide special care to communities living on several islands spread across the country.

“When we visited the Islands during Parliament outreach, we discovered that government has been buying ambulances for roads but none for water. The islanders need ambulances to transport the sick across the lakes and rivers,” she added.

Hon. Kadaga expressed delight at plans by the Rotarians to build a blood bank that will ensure sustainable supplies and save the lives of millions.

The Rotarians also hailed the Speaker for her role in protecting the voiceless and ensuring that their voice is heard in Parliament.

The Speaker also received a meritorious award for her endeavours.
