Kapalaga: My real name is Micheal Kakande. I’m a presenter at Radio Simba and I’m also an artiste. I was born in Gomba, Mpongo Village to Noerina Naguja and Kasule Celesity, who also happened to be artistes in a band called Lukwata Guitar Singers.

ChimpLyf: And your school life?

Kapalaga: I went to St. Theresa Mitala-Maria for P.1- P.4, Eagles High Namasuba from P.5 – P7.

I then joined Lubiri SS for my O and A’ levels. While there, I among was actively engaged in performing arts.

I even formed a drama group called Lubiri News Network.

Later (in 2008), I joined Makerere for Computer Science which I didn’t finish.

In 2010, I joined Sikkim Manipal University of India, where I graduated with a Bachelors’ in information technology.

ChimpLyf: Did you say you joined radio immediately after your A’ level?

Kapalaga: No, in my vacation, l went to my brother’s studio – DMS Studios to gain experience in production.

That’s when I met Komando, who was a sports presenter at Dembe FM. And when opportunity surfaced on his radio – calling for potential presenters, I jumped on board and did it perfectly well!

Later on, Komando introduced me to Mandevu of Radio Simba who liked what I did and hired me for the production department.

And like they say, the rest is history.

I am now a proud presenter of the Wolokoso Programme and Mambya Esaze, the Morning Show.

ChimpLyf: And how did you join the music industry?

Michael Kakande aka Kapalaga

Kapalaga: As I said, my parents were artistes so, it sort of came naturally.

When I showed I was interested in the trade, they supported me!

ChimpLyf: What was your first song?

Kapalaga: Mubyadala.

ChimpLyf: Interesting! So, how many albums do you have now?

Kapalaga: I have only one.

ChimpLyf: What achievements have you so far made out of music? Kapalaga: I have got many friends, I’m popular, and l have a band called Lion K Stars.

ChimpLyf: Tell us more about your life. Are you married?

Kapalaga: No, but am not searching either…

ChimpLyf: Which of your songs do you love most?

Kapalaga: My songs…I love Leo Ni Leo.

ChimpLyf: Are you doing any new song?

Kapalaga: Yeah! I have Kyekyo. It’s my latest and will soon to be out. ChimpLyf: Who writes your songs?

Kapalaga: I do…I have been a songwriter ever since I was born.

ChimpLyf: Who is your music icon in Uganda?

Kapalaga: That is father. It’s amazing to see an artiste of those years still live, since many of those legends died long ago.

ChimpLyf: Apart from singing and radio, what else do you do?

Kapalaga: I have a music school in Bukoto. It’s called Brain Storm Talent School.

ChimpLyf: What are some of the biggest challenges you have so far faced in music?

Kapalaga: Temptations! I see many beautiful girls whenever I go for shows, and sometimes pour out their hearts to me.

ChimpLyf: Where do you do your shopping?

Kapalaga: I shop right next door…at Nakumat Supermarket.
