Afterwards, the President called a female aide who secured Atwijukire’s envelope.

Together with her mother Ms Generous Tumuhimbise, the girl was picked the next day and detained at Mbarara Central Police Station.

The Rwizi region Police Spokesperson, Ibin Senkumbi, told Chimpreports that Atwijukire and her mother were swiftly released afterwards after receiving a call from a highly placed person in the State.

“The girl and her mother were following up on pledges made to them by the President during a rally held in Kiruhura,” said the VIP.

Ssenkumbi on his behalf told us that they arrested the girl for antagonising presidential security.

“As a police, we had to keep law and order by detaining them until further notice.”

At the moment, it was not clear what Atwijukire had told the President but according to her mother’s statement at police, President Museveni promised to construct a house, pay school fees for the orphaned girl, and buy them land.

“They thought that the fund was released to Kiruhura leaders but ended up in their pockets which forced Atwijukire to embark on the most risky venture,” Ssekumbi said.

Ssenkumbi also advised people from Western Region to keep distance “even if the President is their tribe mate” because the act poses a security threat.

“Ankole people should respect presidential guards because they have a job to do.”
