President Museveni was seen off at Entebbe International Airport this evening by the Vice-President, Mr. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.
Others at the airport to see him off included the Head of Public Service, Mr. John Mitala, the Commander of Air Force, Gen. Sam Turyagyenda, the Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura and the Director of Engineering in the Uganda Prisons Service, Mr. David Nsalasata.
Meanwhile, President Jakaya Kikwete started receiving congratulatory messages from a number of world leaders on the golden jubilee of the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar, according to reports.
Among the high profile leaders who sent the messages are Pope Francis and the presidents of Germany, France, Ireland, India, South Africa, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Algeria, Egypt, South Korea, South Sudan, Benin and People’s Republic of Korea.
According to allAfrica, Tanzanian missions abroad will arrange special programmes to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Union.
Such programmes have been organised in Washington DC, Moscow, Maputo, Berlin, Kuala Lumpur, Cairo and Paris.
