Police publicist Fred Enanga said in a statement on Tuesday that Silver Mangeni and the abductees were not hurt in the rescue operation.

It all started with Mangeni’s uncle, Egesa, who doubles as the private security company supervisor, deducting money from his salary.

The money was sent to Mangeni’s family in Eastern Uganda.

Upon realising the deductions, Mangeni swiftly turned against his other workmates (2 females and 8 males) whom he put at gunpoint thus holding them hostage.

According to Enanga, “The DPC Kabalagala Police station and his crew responded which caused the security guard to run and seek refuge at their other offices located at plot 1440 Muyenga “A” Tank Hill Road at around 1:00 am on the April 20.

The Police at Kabalagala cordoned off the area and tried to prevail over the suspect together with the Director Protectorate SPC Mr. Moses Masiko but all in vain.”

The Elite Counter Terrorism Police were later called in to arrest the situation.

At around 7.00 am, Police commandos tactically stormed the premises with covering shots and subdued the suspect who shot at them too.

“He was arrested and his gun No. GPD 56F3200363 recovered with 4 rounds remaining. The victims were all rescued without any injuries. The civilian population is highly commended for their vigilance and the counter terrorism unit for their degree of professionalism,” said Enanga.
