The King had earlier on told journalists that he approached Minister Mwesige seeking his intervention in the conflict over revenue collection from GTZ buildings seating on the kingdom land in Mucwa.

“Minister Mwesige had set Friday April 18 to meet Tooro kingdom officials, Kabarole district leaders and top religious leaders at our palace Harukoto hill,” Oyo said.

“The ground rent from the two buildings that were formerly occupied by the Health department and Education is not supposed to be divided and shared by the two institutions but should directly go on the Kingdom account”.

The King added that the conflicts were fuelled by some leaders who misunderstood the Kingdom but he was optimistic that during the Friday meeting, all these would be ironed out.

According to a reliable source in the Kingdom, the meeting will be attended by all Members of Parliament from the district of Kabarole.

The two institutions have been embroiled in a conflict over funds from buildings housing Makerere University Fort Portal Campus located at the Kingdom headquarters, Mucwa.

The district local government has continued to accuse the Kingdom administration of failing to remit money (50%) to the district for the occupation of two buildings.

Richard Rwabuhinga, the Kabarole district Chairman, has acknowledged receiving the invitation for the scheduled meeting at the palace.

“As the district, our stand remains firm. We can’t allow our building to be taken by the Kingdom.”

He reaffirms that the buildings were built by GTZ before President Yoweri Museveni’s government restored Kingdoms and when GTZ was leaving, they left the said building with Kabarole district.

In October last year, Makerere University Fort Portal campus relocated to the Kingdom administrative seat at Mucwa and occupied the education and health buildings that were formerly used by the Kabarole district administration.

In February, Makerere University paid Shs 27m to Tooro Kingdom for renting the two buildings for a year but 50% was not remitted onto the district account as agreed earlier.
