According to Maj Garang, fighting lasted for more than four hours resulting in injuries of both civilian and military personnel.

According to Radio Tamazuj, shelling by rebel forces killed eight people and wounded 20 others.
The Renk Commissioner Kur Chuai told Radio Tamazuj that the rebels bombarded the town from Manyo County with a 120mm weapon, dispersing the civil population to areas outside the town.

Upper Nile remains a volatile and battle ground for the two warring parties who continue to vie for the overlordship of the capital Malakal.
Ever since rebels lost Malakal to SPLA, they have continuously launched attacks with the hope of regaining the strategic oil state.
Clashes continue between rebels and government troops for the control of strategic areas in Upper Nile states, Jonglei state and Unity states.
