“We are not objecting to Kirumira’s plans to resign but he should follow the right formal procedures; if he feels he has served the country through police for long enough, let him forward his resignation to the office of the IGP,” noted Onyango.

Onyango advised that Kirumira should write to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and if he finds out that the reasons he gives for his resignation are genuine, he will allow him to resign.

Following his arrest and detention at Nsambya Police Barracks for allegedly soliciting a Shs 200,000 bribe, Kirumira says that he is no longer safe to continue with his office.

“My life is in danger because I’m a threat to several people including big officers within the force.”

“I appreciate whoever has stood with me during this trying moment and whoever has done anything possible, am finally out of the chains,” said Kirumira in a social media message.

“Wait for what will follow next, I have resigned, I can’t wait to die in the hands of these traitors.”
