“I will not allow this to happen again in my district as long as I’m still the chairman. What he did was wrong. It is not the work of the RDC to fire civil servants from offices,” Keihwa pointed out.
Keihwa noted that the sole role of the Resident District Commissioners is to monitor government programmes.
He cited the 1990s incident where the district council unlawfully sacked the Chief Administrative Officer, Gladys Aserua Oroch, who later dragged the district to court costing it over Shs 500m in compensation.
Deputy RDC, Niwagaba, fires back
When Chimpreports contacted Moses Niwagaba, the Deputy RDC Kabale district, he vowed to fight any politician or civil servant found misusing government funds.
“I was sent to Kabale to represent the President and I will not keep quiet when government money is being misused,” Niwagaba vowed.
“I will not be intimidated to stop fighting against corruption.”
Axed sub county chief’s woes
Last month, deputy RDC Niwagaba suspended Chief Ampaire for incompetence, misconduct and abuse of office.
This followed a petition filed by Rwamucucu sub county NAADS Coordinator, Kibibi Bagazonzya Franco.
In his letter dated January 31, 2014, Bagazonzya petitioned the office of the RDC through the District Production Officer accusing Chief Ampaire of creating challenges in extension and coordination of activities in the sub county’s NAADS department.
Ampaire allegedly withdrew Shs 3.5m Banana Bacteria Wilt (BBW) fund on top of receiving, distributing coffee seedlings to farmers and paying the supplier without knowledge of the NAADS coordinators.
