“But next month, we will take part in the Zambian rally.”

The Sasol Rally of South Africa is the second round of the African Rally Championship where Muhangi earlier registered to take part.

Muhangi together with navigator Bashir Mbogo took part in the Rallye Bandama Cote D’Ivoire last month but retired on day two after his engine blew.

Haji Abdul Ssempebwa another Ugandan who registered to participate in the African Rally Championship this year will also miss out.

“I ordered for the gear-box from abroad but I couldn’t get it in time and for that reason, I can’t go to South Africa. Otherwise, I will wait for the Zambian rally next month,” explained Ssempebwa.

Twenty four drivers including 2012 African Rally Champion, Mohamed Essa, registered to take part in the Sasol Rally that will cover 200km.

Meanwhile, last year’s Champion, Jassy Singh, of Zambia will not defend the championship due to his commitment to studies.

His navigator, Dave Shihok, renowned for winning more ARC titles on the continent with different drivers, will now navigate for Kenneth Mukosa, the current Zambia’s NRC champion.
