The district local government has continued to accuse the Kingdom administration of failing to remit money to the district for the occupation of two buildings.

The meeting held at the King’s palace in Munyonyo Kampala, was called by the King to find an amicable solution to the conflict that is threatening the relationship of the two institutions.

The meeting was attended by the Queen Mother, Best Kemigisa and the Batebe Princess, Ruth Komuntale.

A reliable source who preferred anonymity and attended the meeting told this reporter that King Oyo was dissatisfied with the way district authorities particularly, the district chairperson, Richard Rwabuhinga, was handling the matter.

“The statements uttered by Rwabuhinga during last month’s council sitting in Kitumba East division were inciting his subjects against the Kingdom,” King Oyo told the Minister.

“Rwabuhinga should have discussed the matter with the Kingdom before presenting it to the district council,” Oyo pointed out.

According to the source, Minister Mwesige accepted to call a meeting between the Kingdom leadership and the district in two weeks’ time in Fort Portal to mediate in the conflict.

In a telephone interview, the Kingdom Premier, Steven Kaliba, said that he wasn’t aware of the meeting between the King and the Minister.

“There are important issues that need to be solved between the two institutions. We cannot keep on conflicting,” the Premier, however, said.

Jonathan Baguma, King Oyo’s personal assistant, confirmed to us that the meeting took place, but declined to divulge details.

Last month, Rwabuhinga Richard the Kabarole chair wrote to King Oyo about the conduct of Steven Kaliba, the Tooro Kingdom Premier.

In the March letter, Rwabuhinga accused Kaliba of feeding King Oyo with lies and creating a rift between the district leadership and the Kingdom.

In October last year, Makerere University Fort Portal campus relocated to the Kingdom administrative seat at Mucwa and occupied the education and health buildings that were formerly used by the Kabarole district administration.

In February, Makerere University paid Shs 27m to Tooro Kingdom for renting the two buildings for a year.

The two buildings were constructed and used by GTZ but when they were leaving, they left the building to Kabarole district local government.
