Museveni Praises Dr Elioda Tumwesigye

The service was also organised to launch the selected livelihood programmes for the people in Sheema North Constituency.


The function was attended by among others, the Archbishop of Uganda, the Most Reverend Stanley Ntagali, Archbishop Paul Bakyenga of Mbarara Archdiocese and other religious leaders from various corners of the country.


President Museveni, who was accompanied by three Members of the East African Legislative Assembly, Hon. Kyangoyo Mbasa from Kenya, Hon. Shairose Bangi from Tanzania and one from Burundi, hailed Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye for being developmental and instrumental in the fight against household poverty.


He told the congregation that he got to know about Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye as a good person years ago and was impressed most by his campaign in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic.


He commended him for promoting government’s programme of transforming all homesteads into money making units by changing the mindset of his constituents and supporting families with planting materials and technologies to convert them from subsistence to modern commercial agriculture.

The President was also impressed by the door-to-door campaign to kick out poverty, hunger and diseases in Sheema that was launched by Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, under the Sheema North Development Association (SHNODA).

Mr. Museveni challenged all leaders in the country to convert people in their areas from practicing subsistence to modern commercial agriculture.


He advised leaders to count homes that are engaged in activities that generate income and those that have no income and teach them to increase their incomes.

Time to share the cake

He advised people of Sheema district to learn how to utilise their small pieces of land by engaging in different profitable enterprises.


President Museveni pledged a tractor to the farmers of Sheema, donated Shs 20m to Sheema Twetambire Development Group and promised to give them 20 cows.


He further pledged a donation of 500,000 disease free and resistant coffee seedlings. He also promised to support other projects like the silk project.


The East African Legislative Assembly MPs commended President Museveni for his contribution towards development and security amongst East African countries.


They expressed happiness with the commitment of Uganda to the East African integration adding that they were very excited to see and hear Ugandans sing the East African Anthem.


The EALA MPs stressed that East African integration must be people centred.


The host, Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, reported to President Museveni that the people of Sheema were thankful to the government for appointment him as Minister.


He added that the people of the area also appreciate the President’s support to the Kabwohe-based Ankole Western University Project, for being a Godly person with a large heart and also for his spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation.


Church of Uganda Prelate, Rt. Rev. Stanley Ntagali, urged Christians to develop the spirit of thanking, if they were to succeed in whatever they do.


He recognised the fact that many Ugandans are successful but are to a large extent afflicted by a self-centred outlook.
